For those travelling to Cambridge from London airports

There are several ways to get from the London Airports into Cambridge.

Taxi:
A taxi will cost approximately £120 each way. To ensure a metered fare, please use a taxi from the rank outside the terminal buildings. Payment by credit card may incur a processing fee.

Coach:
The National Express coach service runs from the central bus stations at Heathrow and Gatwick airports into central Cambridge. Ticket and schedule information can be found at http://www.nationalexpress.com/coacheslanding.aspx.

Rail:
To take the train from Heathrow and Gatwick airports to Cambridge participants will need to take the Underground service into London, then out on the National Rail services to Cambridge. Ticket, route and rail schedule information can be found at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/. London Underground maps, ticket and rail schedule information can be found at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/. Suggested rail routes to Cambridge from Heathrow and Gatwick Airports:

  • From Heathrow:
    Take the Underground Piccadilly Line eastbound from Heathrow to Kings Cross St Pancras. Change to train service to Cambridge. Journey time approx 2 hours.
  • From Gatwick:
    Take the rail service to London Victoria Station. Change to Underground service to Kings Cross St Pancras on the Victoria line, northbound. Change to train service to Cambridge. Journey time approx 2 hours.

Getting to the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute from the centre of Cambridge

Return transportation from the centre of Cambridge to the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute will be by coach. The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute is not in central Cambridge so coach transfers are necessary each day. Please ensure you notify Victoria Hansford of which hotel you are staying in by Monday 26 October in order to secure a place on the coach each day. Pick up timings for participants from close to the University Arms, Gonville Best Western and Travel Lodge Leisure Park will be:

  • Monday 1 November – 08:30am
  • Tuesday 2 November – 07:45am
  • Wednesday 3 November – 07:45am
